On January 15, 2026, the Malaysian Education and Cultural Promotion Association and its China Office, Dongyi Cultural Industry Group, along with a delegation from the University of Malaysia, arrived at China University of Petroleum to conduct the third stop of their China visit exchange activities. The two parties held specialized discussions on educational cooperation in the energy sector, during which China University of Petroleum signed strategic cooperation agreements with both the Malaysian Education and Cultural Promotion Association and the University of Malaysia.
Energy-Specific Cooperation
As a key hub for cultivating high-level talent in China's petroleum and petrochemical sectors, China University of Petroleum's collaboration with Universiti Nasional Malaysia will focus on energy science and engineering. Malaysia, a pivotal energy nation within ASEAN, possesses extensive expertise in oil and gas resource development and management, enabling complementary strengths through this partnership.
Special Agreement Signing
During the signing ceremony, the three parties agreed on specific collaboration directions, including Sino-foreign cooperative education programs, joint funding for international academic research projects, and combined study-abroad training initiatives. This marked the first partnership established by the Malaysian delegation during their visit to Shandong with a university specializing in energy studies, signifying the extension of China-Malaysia educational cooperation from comprehensive fields to the energy discipline.
Prospects for Cooperation
The Belt and Road must be translated as the Belt and Road. This collaboration will foster professional exchanges between China and Malaysia in the energy and education sectors, cultivating more cross-cultural professionals for energy cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. By combining the academic strengths of the University of Malaysia in engineering and technology with the specialized expertise of China University of Petroleum, a unique international cooperation model is expected to emerge.
